The USC Genetic Counseling Program was founded in 1985 by Robert Young, Janice Edwards, and Richard Ferrante with support from genetics colleagues in Greenwood, Augusta, Charleston, and Charlotte. As the 10th program in the nation and 1st in the southeast, the program is now recognized as a historic pillar in the genetic counseling community with collaborations that have grown throughout the country and internationally. With over 250 graduates, we celebrate their accomplishments and service to an infinite number of patients and families and applaud their leadership as they spearhead advances in genetic counseling service, education, research, and industry.
Building this program has been her career focus and after 40+ years leading the way, Janice is passing the torch to the next generation! One of her primary initiatives has been to ensure financial stability for years to come, and thus, the Genetic Counseling Forever Endowment Fund was created in 2013 to serve as a financial bedrock to enhance genetic counselor education.
