Genetic Counseling Program Endowment Tenth Anniversary Campaign

The USC Genetic Counseling Program was founded in 1985 by Robert Young, Janice Edwards, and Richard Ferrante with support from genetics colleagues in Greenwood, Augusta, Charleston, and Charlotte. As the 10th program in the nation and 1st in the southeast, the program is now recognized as a historic pillar in the genetic counseling community with collaborations that have grown throughout the country and internationally. With over 250 graduates, we celebrate their accomplishments and service to an infinite number of patients and families and applaud their leadership as they spearhead advances in genetic counseling service, education, research, and industry.

Building this program has been her career focus and after 40+ years leading the way, Janice is passing the torch to the next generation! One of her primary initiatives has been to ensure financial stability for years to come, and thus, the Genetic Counseling Forever Endowment Fund was created in 2013 to serve as a financial bedrock to enhance genetic counselor education.

We’re proud to report that since 2021, Endowment interest has been reinvested in our students to support:

  • Senior year rotation travel stipends,
  • National Society of Genetic Counselors Annual Conference registration fees for all students,
  • A diversity scholarship to support a first-year student
  • The Karen Albiez Brooks, MS, CGC Cancer Genetics Scholarship

Please join us in celebrating all that Janice and the Genetic Counseling Program have accomplished!  Your donation to the Genetic Counseling Program Endowment is a permanent investment that will continue to enrich outstanding genetic counselor education forever.

We welcome gifts of all sizes, but invite you to donate at one of the following levels that represent milestones in Janice's career, as we thank her for her service:

  • $42 represents the number of years Janice has practiced as a genetic counselor
  • $264 represents the number of genetic counseling students Janice has taught
  • $500 represents the number of hours Janice spent commuting to work per year
  • $1000 represents the number of genetic counseling program interviews Janice has conducted
  • $2500 represents the number of hours Janice has spent one-on-one with students

We are so grateful for your support, generosity, and collaboration!
