Remote Area Medical Clinic - March 18th-19th, 2023

Who are we?

We are the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville campus chapter of Remote Area Medical, who are serving as the host group for a RAM clinic in the Upstate region of South Carolina. Our group consists of around 20 first and second-year medical students who are eager to help provide free accessible healthcare to our community. 

What's the plan?

On March 18-19, 2023, we plan on hosting a RAM pop-up clinic at Greer High School in Greer, South Carolina. We plan to serve 300-350 patients over a two-day span. We expect to draw a patient population from all over Upstate South Carolina and surrounding areas like Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia. The central location in Greer, SC will allow us to serve underserved communities across the greater Greenville, Spartanburg, Pickens, and Oconee County regions. At the clinic, we will provide medical, dental, and vision services to anyone in attendance, completely free of charge. Some of these services include dental cleanings, fillings, and extractions, yearly medical screenings, women’s health and pediatric services, eye exams, and glasses made on site.

Why RAM?

RAM clinics fill a gap in community health by offering once a year services that may not be covered by insurance and may be too expensive to pay out of pocket, like dental procedures and prescription glasses, with hopes of recruiting patients to utilize additional medical resources at the clinic and connect patients to local healthcare resources after the clinic is over. We also recognize that there is a great need for long-term continued healthcare in our community. By organizing this clinic, our goal is to initially attract patients for large once-a-year services like dental work and prescription glasses, but have representatives from various community health partners present to get patients plugged into local, accessible, and cost-effective care after the clinic.
