We need your help to spread the word!

July 25, 2017

The University of South Carolina Moving Image Research Collections is hiring two post-production technicians to work exclusively on digitizing the U.S. Marine Corps Film archive.  These full-time, temporary positions are funded by a generous donation from the Parris Island Historical & Museum Society and are eligible for benefits.  The positions are designated for one year with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.  Veterans are encouraged to apply.

Here is the link to the job posting and application:  http://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/17068.

We are grateful the U.S. Marine Corps Film Repository project continues to move forward with the support of the community.  Thank you for being a part of this effort!

Mission Accomplished!

December 12, 2016

Thank you for the incredible support of the U.S. Marine Corps Film Repository! Because of your generous donations, Moving Image Research Collections has completed its mission to raise more than $25,000 in just 30 days to digitize the Parris Island footage in the collection.

Once the films are scanned, we will create a website that will allow you to view the films free-of-charge.  We also want you to share any details about the people, places, and activities in the films on the interactive website.

The Parris Island films are just a small part of a larger $2 million campaign to digitize the entire 1,800 hours in the Marine Corps film collection.  To learn more about this project, visit the website at library.sc.edu/MarineCorps

We appreciate your support!

The home stretch – Give Now!

December 09, 2016

We are humbled and grateful for the generosity of those who have donated to save and share the U.S. Marine Corps films.

With just two days to go, we have reached 81% of our goal. We are asking for everyone to dig deep to help us get to $25,000!

Every donation is tax deductible!

Every donor can honor a veteran!

Every $20 donation or more gets a commemorative koozie!

Join this important mission to make the Parris Island Depot footage available freely online.

We appreciate every contribution.  Together we can make our goal!

The final countdown to save and share Marine Corps history!

December 08, 2016

Just 3 days remain to reach our $25,000 goal to make the Parris Island Marine Corps films available online.  Because of the generosity of our donors, we have reached 70% of the goal.  We need your help to get us over the top!

Every gift of $20 or more gets a commemorative koozie.  A donation of $1,775 gets a beautiful Gamecock football coffee table book.

This is a wonderful opportunity to give a tax-deductible donation and honor a veteran for their service.

Join the mission and give today!

Thanks to Col. & Mrs. Roger Rucker (pictured below with Libraries Director of Development, Beth Well) for helping to spread the word at the Lexington Veterans Day Parade.

Six more days to preserve history!

December 05, 2016

Thank you for your support of the U.S. Marine Corps film project!

There are just 6 days left in the campaign, and we have reached more than half of our $25,000 goal.  We need your help to spread the word to get us over the top!

And we have incentives…

The first five people to contribute $1,775 (1775 is the year the Marines were founded) will receive a beautiful USC football coffee table book, and everyone who gives a $20 donation will receive the gift of a USC – Marine Corps film koozie.

Every contribution is appreciated, and we love to see the veterans who are being honored through the gifts.

Help us reach the goal to save and share the U.S. Marine Corps films with current and future generations.  Join the mission today!

12 days left!

November 29, 2016

Today is Giving Tuesday, and we are asking everyone to donate to the Marine Corps film project in honor of a veteran.  We are grateful to those who have supported this effort so far and helped us reach 26% of our goal.  Less than two weeks remain to raise the full $25,000.  Please help us spread the word!

Over the holiday week, we counted our blessings and gave thanks for our men and women in uniform.  Our goal with this project is to give something back to those that have given so much in service to their country.  Each dollar given to this campaign will be spent to digitize and make the Marine Corps film history freely available online.  Help us tell the amazing story of the few, the proud, the Marines!

Every donation gets us closer to our goal.  Join the mission today and make your contribution count!

Our first ten days were phenomenal - because of YOU!

November 21, 2016

Thanks to all of our generous donors who contributed during the first ten days of the campaign!  We appreciate your contributions and ask that you tell your friends and family about this important project.

We have been out talking to the community about the U.S. Marine Corps films since our launch on Veterans Day, and have been blown away by the enthusiastic response.  We have especially loved meeting Marines and hearing their stories.  It is our hope that once these films are digitized and available online that the community will help us identify faces and places in the footage.  We can’t wait for the day when someone sees himself or herself in the films!

A donation of $20 digitizes one minute of film.  Help us get another minute paid for. Every tax-deductible donation matters. Join the mission!
