Each August, the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie baseball team begins training and competes in a 15 date fall season to help prepare them for a 56 game spring season, which begins in late January and carries into the first week of May at the earliest. The fall season lasts from August 20-November 1. During that combined 5 month period some facilities (mostly the field and batting cages), uniforms, and equipment experience much wear and tear. Other structural facilities need periodic upgrades. In addition, most travel series in the spring involve overnight accommodations including food and lodging. All home series require the use of a 2-man umpiring crew as well. Our goal is to raise $8,000 in 28 days through donor contributions to help fund the day-to-day operations for this season.
Impact:
USC Salkehatchie’s West Campus in Allendale, SC was established in 1965. Baseball arrived on campus as a club sport in 1972. Four years later in 1976, USC Salkehatchie began competing as a member of the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA). Since then, over 1,000 young men have been a part of Salkehatchie baseball. We, as a team, believe in working hard in the classroom as well as on the field. We also believe in being IN the community and not just existing WITHIN it. These young men jump at any opportunity to lend a helping hand with events such as a county-wide clean ups or contributing to toy drives for underprivileged children. Just as their predecessors have, some will advance to play at the 4-year level and some will be drafted. Some will pursue career opportunities outside of baseball and become successful husbands and fathers.
What Your Gift Will Do:
Each contribution will go directly to covering umpire fees, meals, lodging, replacing worn/tattered uniforms, replacing necessary equipment including but not limited to baseballs (game and practice) and catching gear, replacing worn or tattered tarps, and any other upgrades that are needed.
