Our Crowdfunding Groups
Our Carolinian Creed is our shared value statement at the University of South Carolina. It empowers our students to set an example for all to follow. It proclaims that respect, integrity and dignity are the foundation of our campus and the character of our community.
Our campus, like many in the South, has a fraught history, from the use of slave labor, to the infringement on the rights of Black students to learn, to the disenfranchisement of Black scholars and leaders. We have come a long way in the past 219 years, and we still have work to do.
Today, when you support one of the programs listed, you are directly impacting Black students, investing in programs that uplift their voices and experiences, and building pathways to success that have previously been unavailable. As we sustain this university in its third century, we want our legacy to be one of growth and change, inclusion and equity, diversity and dignity.
Programs and Projects
- The African American Studies Program focuses on the experiences of people of African descent and evaluates historical, cultural, social, economic and political developments in South Carolina, the South, the United States and beyond.
- The Apple Core Initiative at the College of Education recruits, enrolls and retains South Carolina high school students from historically underrepresented populations into the teacher education programs at the University of South Carolina to fill both a capacity and diversity void in South Carolina public schools.
- The Black Faculty and Staff Association supports its members through networking, events and seminars.
- The Black Law Students Association Fund will support travel to competitions, conferences and other necessary travel to advance their mission. The UofSC Black Law Student Association is part of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) and is in the Southern Region (SRBLSA), which seeks to promote the advancement of black law students and empowerment of the black community.
- The Carolina Cares Cupboard in the College of Nursing provides food, hygiene products and clothing to reduce barriers for vulnerable students.
- The Center for Civil Rights History and Research is the first organization dedicated to telling and preserving South Carolina’s civil rights story.
- The College of Arts and Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund supports our efforts to foster an environment that values and is strengthened by the many different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences that faculty, students and staff bring to our learning community. The fund will be implemented at the discretion of the college's Associate Dean for Diversity.
- The College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management Diversity and Inclusion Fund will support and bring attention to special projects for underrepresented students, including diversity and inclusion clubs, events, programming and training, as well as other initiatives as directed by the dean.
- The College of Pharmacy's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund supports the initiatives and actions of the college's diversity committee, designed to improve and maintain diversity.
- The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund at the Darla Moore School of Business provides critical investments for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, to support scholarships, student organizations and other outreach efforts to ensure student success.
- The Everett L. Dargan Scholarship at the School of Medicine supports the recruitment of underrepresented minority students.
- Gamecock Athletes Magnifying Excellence (GAME) provides networking, internship opportunities and conferences for athletes of color.
- The Gamecock Guarantee is a need-based financial and academic support program to expand access to the university. Our goal is to make a Carolina degree more attainable for academically talented first-generation students from South Carolina families.
- The Grace Jordan McFadden Award recognizes excellence and advancement in scholarship related to African American Studies.
- The I. DeQuincey Newman Institute for Peace and Social Justice carries on the mission of the Rev. I. DeQuincey Newman by promoting social justice through interdisciplinary education, consultation and research at the community, state, national and international levels.
- The James E. and Emily E. Clyburn Public Health Endowed Scholarship Award is designed to increase the number of professionals and researchers from minority and medically underserved populations who are trained in public health, particularly health disparities.
- The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs strives to educate each member of the university community. Through understanding the individual responsibility they carry, Carolinians can create a community of acceptance for all individuals as well as nurture an atmosphere of inclusion and positive social change.
- The Richard T. Greener Scholarship is awarded to a well-deserving incoming minority freshman based on academic achievement, leadership ability, community service and financial need.
- The South Carolina Collaborative on Race and Reconciliation focuses on inclusiveness and the participation of individuals who are committed to exchanges of personal reflections of race in their lives and the desire to build bridges among participants and, in turn, to bring about effective multiracial progress.
- The South Carolina Honors College Diversity and Inclusion Fund will support scholarships, grants or awards for underrepresented students, diversity and inclusion events, programming and training, and other initiatives as identified by the dean.
- Virtual Conference Access at the College of Engineering and Computing will provide monetary support to under-represented minorities so they can attend virtual conferences.
- Voices of South Carolina: Black Lives Matter is part of the Department of Oral History at University Libraries that captures living history through first-person narratives.
- 4+1 Memorandum of Agreement between the College of Information and Communications and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Claflin University will improve diversity in graduate student enrollment, strengthen the academic and career preparation of underrepresented students, contribute to the diversity pipeline for the information and communications industries, and create a pathway to diverse faculty.
