May 20, 2020 update: More than 2,400 applications for aid have been submitted to date.
To provide vital assistance to students impacted by this pandemic and the University of South Carolina's campus closure, we have established the UofSC COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund through the UofSC Educational Foundation. Through this fund, we can respond to current and emerging needs related to the impact of the coronavirus at our university. Our aim is to help students who are facing financial hardship and other burdens due to unexpected challenges created by COVID-19.
Some of our students are striving to complete their semester coursework and are in immediate need of laptops, software, internet access and other resources to make this possible. Many are incurring expenses related to unplanned travel home and third-party fees for cancelled study programs away from campus. Some have already lost jobs as businesses cut back. For those who are unable to complete their studies remotely and must withdraw from school, there may be expenses related to repaying federal financial aid.
Even as we hold true to the University of South Carolina’s commitment to excellence in every aspect of our mission as the state’s flagship university, we recognize that each of us is managing unanticipated circumstances day by day. We are thankful to be part of this supportive Gamecock family, upholding each other in these times so we can emerge strong and ready for brighter days.

Requests for assistance have far outpaced the funds we have available at this time, so new applications have been paused until we have sufficient donations to respond to pending requests. We are continuing to seek donations to help students in need of assistance. Students who have already submitted applications will be notified when funds are available to respond to their requests. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships conducts a needs review on all applications and makes awards when donated funds are available.
Awards from the emergency relief fund are not affiliated with federal CARES Act financial assistance, which distributes aid to all eligible students through the UofSC CARES plan. Students who are eligible for CARES Act assistance will be contacted directly by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
