Support Opera at USC

The Project:

Each academic year, Opera at USC presents two fully staged operas with orchestra featuring undergraduate and graduate singers, instrumentalists, and pianists.  The Opera program relies on annual support from donors to help supplement its budget to produce these shows and cover all of the production costs. Our goal is to raise $8,000 through contributions, both large and small, to offset the costs of costumes for the fall production of Floyd’s Susannah and the spring production of Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel.

Who We Are:

Opera at USC offers a truly comprehensive program for both graduate and undergraduate students, covering every facet of opera production, both on stage and behind the scenes. Singers, directors, pianists, conductors, marketing and public relations students and theatrical technicians get expert teaching and intensive hands-on experience in their respective crafts.

Opera at USC is one of only a handful of colleges and universities nationwide that offers special training and practice for aspiring opera stage directors. Students can gain abundant practical stage experience by participating in the operas either onstage or off.

In addition to the two fully staged operas each year, Opera at USC also presents an evening of One-Act Operas, often with a graduate stage director. Roles are open to undergraduates and graduates.

The Impact:

The students involved in the Opera at USC program are our future performers and leaders in the professional opera world, and each production they take part in hones their skills and prepares them for their professional careers.  Having the hands on experience to perform in a fully staged production (with costumes, props, sets, and orchestra) prepares them for the next step in their careers, and it is vital for students to have these complete learning experiences in order to have the confidence to succeed in a professional capacity following graduation.  These talented students are our future music educators and leaders, and will leave UofSC prepared to make an impact on the world through music.

Each contribution made to this campaign will go directly toward funding costumes for the casts of Opera at USC’s productions of Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah and Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel. Every donation counts! These fully staged productions would not be possible without the support of generous donors like you. Thank you for providing Opera at USC the support necessary to keep the music playing!
