WUSC is the first free-format non-commercial radio station to hit the Columbia waves. Born in 1947, our station proudly delivers a continuous broadcast of original programming that can’t be found anywhere else. We are completely student run and feature an array of shows curated by the students, alumni, faculty and staff of USC. you can tune to our station anywhere in our 30-mile broadcast radius, listen via our website, or find us on the RadioFX app. Our reach is expansive and our DJs are dedicated to the encouragement and spread of independent music both locally made and nationally distributed, in the name of education.
WUSC needs help in meeting our fundraising goal so we can continue to provide original programming to the Carolina community and beyond! We have an annual fundraising goal of $14,000, and our goal this semester is $7,000. Our spring fundraiser kicks off Sunday, April 1 and runs through Monday, April 30.
We now ask for the community we serve to support us in meeting or goal and help us to continue moving forward.
WUSC provides students with the opportunity to learn the mechanics of being on air and the logistics of running an entire station. Students can gain technical and leadership skills that will make them more valuable in the workforce.
WUSC supports artists around the world, showcasing musicians from overseas back to those based out of our cozy place in the midlands. As a college radio station, WUSC plays a direct role in the music industry, providing a platform to musicians and reporting to NACC charts weekly. Unlike at commercial stations, our DJs curate their shows with the goal of educating both the community and themselves.
WUSC enriches the local community. In addition to our commitment to giving artists on air exposure, we also coordinate several concerts a semester in conjunction with local businesses and artists to showcase our collaborative efforts with other community organizations and businesses, we have established a dedicated listenership and strive to continue providing programming that can’t be found anywhere else.
Because we are a non-commercial, student run station we rely on donations and underwriting to stay on the air. With our licensing fees rising annually and the 70 year legacy of our station showing in some equipment, we need our listener’s support to continue to provide the quality of programming we hope to. As a station we are in a position of incredible growth, and in order to grow while continuing our maintenance, we require your support.
Without the support of our community, WUSC would not be able to provide Columbia and our surrounding area with unique programming and provide Carolina's students with real-world radio experience.
